I’ve spent time during this month, reflecting on Christ’s coming to earth, specifically, his gifts of hope, love, joy, and peace. I had good intentions of writing a reflection each week, but alas, the busy month overruled that idea. So, if you missed it, you can see my reflection on hope that I wrote a few weeks ago, and then look forward to a reflection each day until Christmas.
“Therefore, the LORD Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (God with us).” – Isaiah 7:14
What love it was that Jesus, the Son of God would leave His father, His comforts, His home to make His dwelling among us in order to save us and restore us.
I love this old Irish hymn:
Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, love divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Star and angels gave the sign.
Worship we the Godhead,
Love incarnate, love divine;
Worship we our Jesus:
But wherewith for sacred sign?
Love shall be our token,
Love shall be yours and love be mine,
Love to God and to all men,
Love for plea and gift and sign.
What are your favorite verses, songs, and carols that point you to love during the advent season?
